Weekend Wear

When this week’s Friday’s Fancies theme, easy weekend wear, was announced, I knew I wanted to create a really laid back, summery outfit. I guess it’s kind of wishful thinking on my part, as it’s not really shorts weather yet, but it’s around the corner!

This tee/shorts/sandals combo is what I’d like to think I’d wear on the weekends shopping, hanging out in the yard, or to a concert. It’s pretty basic, but the addition of a pretty necklace and some stylish sunglasses takes it up a notch. Plus, if need be, you could always throw on a summery blazer and some wedges and you’ll be instantly ready for dinner out. Now that’s my kind of weekend wear.

PS: Everything in this outfit is under $30! Talk about a steal!

What I Do

What I Do

Although I’m not participating in Jenni’s Blog Everyday in May Challenge, I love some of the prompts, so I thought I’d incorporate them here and there. The other day, the topic was: if you couldn’t answer with your job, how would you answer the question, ‘what do you do’?

I love this topic. So many people define themselves based on what they do for a living, so I think it’s great to step back and acknowledge everything else that makes you, you.

Here’s what I do:

  • I take way too many pictures, usually of useless things, but not enough of important things.
  • I bake and cook for the people I care for.
  • I talk in weird accents quite often. Just ask my sister.
  • I watch YouTube videos more often than TV.
  • I’m constantly on the computer. Pretty sure my eyesight’s going thanks to this.
  • I watch Gilmore Girls frequently.
  • I go to Target at least 2-3 times a week.
  • I sleep way too much.
  • I organize anything that can be organized.
  • I bookmark blogs like it’s my job.
  • I daydream daily.
  • I help people with tech stuff. Fixing my grandma’s phone and TV is my specialty.
  • I eat french fries at every opportunity.
  • I run around my house with my cat. He chases me… I’m not even kidding.
  • I make lists that could rival Rory Gilmore’s.
  • I laugh obnoxiously when I find something hilarious.
  • I stumble over my words on the phone. And sometimes in person.
  • I listen to albums on repeat if I love them.
  • I have one speed for walking – fast. Same goes for talking.
  • I constantly change my mind, mostly about frivolous things.

There you go — 20 things that I do, that aren’t in anyway related to my job. I could have kept going, but I figured I had to draw the line somewhere. See, I told you about my list making.

Building a Wardrobe

Recently I’ve come to the realization that I have nothing to wear. And I’m not saying that, as I stare at my walk in closet. Nope. My closet is the size of a shoebox. Granted it’s filled to the brim, but that’s not the point.

The point is that I wear the same few shirts repeatedly. The majority of my closet is from my college days. A lot of it is ill fitting and quite frankly, kind of childish (hello juniors department!). When you’re under 5 feet tall and look like you’re 12, it doesn’t help.

Pretty much what all this means is that I’m overhauling my entire wardrobe. I’m not getting rid of everything just yet. I’m just going to slowly start adding new items here and there and eventually I’ll (hopefully) have a wardrobe I can be proud of.

In order for this to happen I’m going to give myself some guidelines:

  1. Each item must be able to be worn 3 different ways.
  2. Clothes must be comfortable.
  3. Cut is key.
  4. Make a list of wardrobe must-haves and only buy clothes on that list.
  5. Quality over quantity.

I’d also like to share a couple of blog posts/series on the topic that I’ve found helpful:

Stay tuned during the next few weeks when I share what’s on my wardrobe essentials list!

Weekly Wrap Up 30

Ty likes to sit on boxes weirdly.

Tyler likes to sit on boxes weirdly.

Another weekend is half over already. Crazy. Yesterday I got to hang out with one of my friends from high school. Today I’m helping my grandma set up for a tea at her church and then I’m planning a Target run. After that, there’s going to be some serious blogging going on. I’ve been slacking and I need to step up my game!

This Week on The Barn

One.

The Barn is One!

One year ago today I started this blog. It’s gone through a lot of changes, from its name, to the design, to the content. The site has really evolved over the past year. I think it’s really growing into its own and I can only imagine what it’ll be like in another year.

The fact that I’ve stuck with something for a year is huge. Prior to this blog, I had several. Most only lasted several weeks, but somehow this one stuck. I’m glad it did. I’ve made so many amazing friends and I’ve gotten the opportunity to pursue a career I never thought possible.

Here’s to a wonderful second year!
