I came across this quote and is really resonated with me. Do you know how hard simple is? Seriously. You’d think it’d be easy, but it’s not. Whether you’re taking about music, design, anything, less really is more.

I had never heard it before either, but I think it’s spot on!
It’s interesting that Bach is in that quote because I was listening to one of his pieces today and I was just stunned – as I am every time I listen to him – because you know, if you know classical music, where Bach is going; his work isn’t terribly surprising (when you hear it with an understanding of the centuries of music history that came after him) but it’s always magical. I love that. You know where his chords are going to go, but it’s no less sublime when they get there.
I’ve heard some of his work, but I’m not too familiar with it. I’ll have to give it another listen with this in mind!
I love simple. Simple can be fresh, beautiful and eye-catching all in one. (My mind instantly hits on art and design, but of course this is true for words, music, etc. as well.)
I think my mind automatically goes to anything visual too, but it definitely can relate to anything!
Great quote. It really takes some restraint to be simple and free of clutter in all areas. It’s something I struggle with constantly!
I struggle with it too. But that just shows how accurate this quote is. Clutter/chaos is so much easier to achieve than simplicity.
