iPhone Texting Shortcuts

Recently I posted about how “typinq like dis” is one of my pet peeves. Purposely typing like that annoys the heck out of me. Now sometimes I understand that it’s beneficial to shorten words or use abbreviations. But still, sometimes that can come across as teeny-bopper-ish.

Luckily, I have a solution for all you iPhone owners!

Wouldn’t you love to type “bc” and have “because” appear on your screen? Well you can, thanks to iPhone texting shortcuts!

1. Go into settings.

2. Then select general.

3. Now click keyboard.

4. Scroll all the way to the bottom. See where it says “Add new shortcut…”? Click that.

5. Now enter your phrase and shortcut. For this example, I’m going to create a shortcut for “definitely.” I’m going to enter “definitely” as the phrase and the abbreviation (in this case “def”) as the shortcut. Be sure to save!

Now whenever I type “def,” the word “definitely” will automatically be suggested.

There are so many great uses for this. I love using it for tmrw –> tomorrow.

Or what about using initials that change into someone’s name?

The possibilities are endless! Now you can type in shorthand, but still look intelligent and professional!

PS: This trick isn’t just for texting! You can use it anywhere text is entered on the iPhone! Notes, emails, etc!
